About 30 West Woodland Neighbors met yesterday afternoon, 02/28/2015, to discuss community concerns, including the recent camper fire that occurred at the corner of 6th Ave NW and NW 45th Street. Lynn Porterfield organized the meeting which allowed neighbors to sound off about issues happening in the area.
Neighbors were interested in pursuing a “No Parking” option for the area around the Seattle City Light Sub-Station, which seems to be a favorite spot for overnight vehicle & RV parking. Many expressed displeasure with how the city and Police handle the homeless and overnight camping issue in Ballard.
Catherine Weatbrook, Seattle City Council District 6 candidate, was in attendance. She encouraged everyone to contact the Seattle Police Department Community Police Team (CPT) for support. The CPT focuses on long-term, and often chronic problems specific to individual neighborhoods and work with residents to resolve. Neighbors were also encouraged to join Nextdoor to connect with others in the area and continue the discussion.
For those interested in helping the cat “Memow” which escaped the fire, but was severely burned and being treated at Ballard Animal Hospital, there is a fund set up to collect donations at: http://www.gofundme.com/memow
