Neighbors Walk – Proposed 6th Ave NW Greenway

neighborhood greenway 3Join your neighbors on a short 1.5 mile walk – all downhill – along the proposed 6th Ave NW Greenway, sponsored by Seattle Neighborhood Greenways.  If you are unable to walk the whole route, please join us for part of the walk.

Date:  Saturday, August 22
First Meeting Location:  9:30 AM at the 6th Ave. Pocket Park, NW 76th & 6th Ave NW
Second Meeting Location:  10:00 AM at Cafe Bambino, NW 65th & 4th NW

The purpose of this walk is to build enthusiasm and support for safety improvements along 6th Ave NW. Safety improvements serve everyone, but particularly children walking to the several schools and preschools located along this corridor and elderly people who have chosen to age gracefully in place in this neighborhood.

The three most difficult areas to address financially and from an engineering perspective are the street crossings at NW 65th, NW Market, and NW 43rd crossing at Leary Ave NW.
6th ave walk
We’ll start at 76th and 6th NW and travel the Summer Parkway route that goes along 6th NW between NW 76th and 58th on September 19. Additional information about Summer Parkways is available here.

We’ll meet people at NW 65th at 10am. We will continue walking and talking down 6th Ave NW, pausing for a while to discuss crossing improvements possible on NW Market and on NW Leary.

In order to build safe streets, people who live on the street need to advocate strongly for improvements.

Making 6th Ave NW safe for all ages & abilities is Seattle Neighborhood Greenways District 6 priority for 2015.  Priorities information available here.

Walk co-hosted by West Woodland Neighbors & Seattle Neighborhood Greenways.

  1. I can’t make the event, but I would love to see this greenway happen! It’s already a pretty good walking/biking route because there’s a stoplight protecting the crosswalks at Market and Leary. Another light at 65th and a better connection to the Burke/Gilman on the other side of Leary would both be huge improvements.
