Have an opinion about something happening in the neighborhood? Want to spread the word about an event coming up? Or a neighbor who has done something awesome? Write about it!
Anytime I receive a message from a reader that starts with, “You should write about…”, I contact them via email or Facebook and suggest they write a piece for this blog. I have been sending these messages for over 12 months and so far no one has taken me up on the offer.
I would like to use this blog to amplify our neighborhood’s voice. If you are interested in putting your thoughts in writing and sharing with the world, here’s how to do it.
Email your opinion, story, or editorial to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include your name, e-mail, neighborhood (Phinney, Fremont, West Woodland, Etc.), and daytime phone number. Only your name and neighborhood will be published.
Opinion letters are subject to condensation and may be edited for clarity. They should be limited to 200 words; those less than 150 words will be given priority. Opinion letters that are well-written, have a clear opinion and responsive to current events are more likely to be chosen for publication.
Story or Editorial:
Story and editorial writers may submit longer pieces, up to 500 words, for consideration. Preference given to stories and editorials that are based on personal experience or expertise and must be of unusual interest to readers. E-mail them, along with a JPEG head shot of the author, to email@example.com.
Just so we’re clear, I will not publish anything that is inappropriate. No swearing, no jargon (use plain English), no sales pitches. Be civil and constructive. Also, be aware that once you submit a opinion, story or editorial, the piece will not be deleted from our site. Forever on the internet!
I look forward to hearing from you!
