New Bell Times for 2016/17 School Year

Wednesday, September 7th is the first day of school for Seattle Public Schools. Bell times for the 2016-17 school year have changed, and elementary aged children will be out on the road earlier than ever before.

From the District, “In response to a year-long Seattle Public Schools’ study on the changing of school bell times to better reflect the sleep rhythms of students.”

What does this do to bell times for schools serving West Woodland, Ballardpublic school kids? Here’s a list of schools & new start times:

B.F. Day and West Woodland Elementary Schools:
Start: 7:55 a.m.
End: 2:05 p.m.

Hamilton International, and Whitman Middle Schools:
Start: 8:45 a.m.
End: 3:15 p.m.

Ballard High School:
Start: 8:45 a.m.
End: 3:15 p.m.

The changes are designed to improve academic outcomes for secondary students.  The district is providing a list of resources on their district website, from child care and nutrition, to after school activities and safety and security, to help families make the transition.
