Neighbors Encouraged To Join Community Emergency Hub At Fremont’s Ross Park

Fremont neighbor Leslie Matthis recently applied for and received a grant from the Seattle Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to place an emergency hub box at Ross Park, located at 4320 4th Ave NW in the Fremont Neighborhood.  The playground is a designated Community Emergency Hub.

Community Emergency Hubs are places where people gather after a disaster to help each other. Hubs are established by community members and encompass geographic areas larger than just an immediate block or building and serve as a central gathering place among neighbors in multiple homes, apartments and condominiums.

Matthis would like to form a volunteer group of residents who are organized to respond after a natural disaster and provide support to residents in the area. The group will coordinate activities with other emergency volunteer groups such as SNAP, CERT, Block Watch and ACS as well as City Management and Emergency services.
