By now you have probably heard of the once secret, invite-only Facebook group for Hillary Clinton supporters. It was called Pantsuit Nation, and by some estimates has nearly 3.7 million members, including a growing group right here in Ballard.
Ballard resident Claire Burkitt is organizing the first Ballard Chapter meeting as a way to gather like-minded people in the community and turn election disappointment into action. The meeting on Friday, December 2 is an opportunity for supporters to share stories, find support, and organize for the future.
Like many, Claire was convinced that Hillary would be the next president. She dropped her ballot at the Ballard library, and proudly wore a bright red dress to work–reminiscent of Hillary’s first debate pantsuit.
“Watching the election results come in was crushing and the evening ended in tears,” she said. “I went home scared, upset, and tired. One thing was clear. We needed to do more.” So Claire went to work, organizing her neighbors, reaching out to others who felt lost after the election. “This event is a step in the right direction to doing more.”
