West Woodland Wins Big!

Congratulations to three West Woodland Elementary Teachers.  Mrs. Hethcote, Ms. York-Jones, and Ms. Williams have each won $2,500 for their classrooms.

The money, a total of $7,500, was a prize awarded through the Thank America’s Teachers contest hosted by Farmers Insurance.  This program will award more than $1 million in 2015.  To learn more, visit: https://www.thankamericasteachers.com/

In order to win this prize, teachers must receive votes from the public, parents, and students.  Not only did these three teachers receive the most votes in Washington State, but they were also three of the top 20 in the United States.  This was undoubtedly a community effort, and they could not have done it without your help.  Thank You!

Update on Gilman Playground Renovations

gilman playground 2Seattle Parks & Recreation met with neighbors today at Bergen Place in the core of Ballard to discuss the upcoming renovation of Gilman Playground in the SW corner of the West Woodland Neighborhood.

Neighbors were able to meet the playground designer and share their thoughts on the style of playground they’d like to see, and specific equipment they would like to have included.  A second meeting will be held in January 2016.  Seattle Parks & Recreation will be in the design and planning stage for several months, with construction expected to being in the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Did you miss today’s event?  There is still time to provide feedback on what changes you would like to see happen at Gilman Playground by completing this short survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/upcomingparkproject

You may also contact the project coordinator, Karimah Edwards, with questions or to be added to the email distribution list at karimah.edwards@seattle.gov.
